Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that the exorbitant price increases are not related to supply and said, “We are in the field with both our own inspection personnel and the relevant personnel of the Ministry of Commerce. I believe that this behavioral disorder will end after a while, and we will see it resolved to a large extent.” he said.
Following the New GAP Action Plan Consultation and the last Economy Coordination Board (EKK) meetings of this year, the economic management met with journalists and answered questions about the agenda.
In his speech here, Minister Yumaklı gave information about the activities of his Ministry in Syria and said that the delegation consisting of the deputy minister and experts returned from Syria.
Yumaklı said, “We are also preparing to appoint an agricultural attaché who will go there when the conditions are ripe.” he said.
Informing that a report was prepared based on the contacts and findings made there, Yumaklı stated that according to the first findings, they observed that 2/3 of the damage occurred in the agricultural infrastructure.
Yumaklı pointed out that this should be confirmed by field findings and noted that they were behind in this regard, especially since there was no renewal of machinery and equipment during the war period.
Referring to the problems experienced in water in Syria, Yumaklı stated that relevant ministries and institutions are working under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on transboundary waters.
Recalling Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz’s statement that contacts were also held in Iraq, Yumaklı said, “Our relevant friends will have already made their determinations on vital issues regarding Syria. At the end of the process, the opportunity and environment to work together will be created. The main issue here is the interests of both countries.” made his assessment.
“WE WILL DO WHAT IS NECESSARY AS THE MINISTRY”
Pointing out that they have joint processes with the Ministry of Commerce regarding the fight against inflation, Yumaklı emphasized that none of the price increases described as exorbitant prices are related to supply.
Yumaklı reminded that two ministries made a statement on this issue after the minimum wage was determined and said:
“It is as if all the costs are labor costs. This should be abandoned. We are in the field with both our own inspection personnel and the relevant personnel of the Ministry of Commerce. We apply the necessary sanctions to those we detect. We also report the issues related to our Ministry of Commerce to the Ministry. I believe that this behavioral disorder will end after a while, it is a big deal.” We will see that the rate is resolved. The last thing was a situation related to red meat. It took half a day to create the perception that there would be an increase when there was actually nothing. “They will not give up. We, as two ministries, will do what is necessary.”
Pointing out that all ministries have an action plan regarding structural changes, Yumaklı stated that their activities will continue next year, especially in production planning and to quickly absorb the effects of all structural transformations.
Drawing attention to the importance of water and irrigation projects for the region, Yumaklı said, “Our aim is to increase our agricultural production efficiently, to ensure our self-sufficiency and food supply security, and to convert the surplus into exports that will contribute to the country’s economy.” he said.
