Face filters, which entered our lives with Snapchat in 2015, have found wide use on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok over time. Originally featured with fun bunny ears and puppy themes, the filters have evolved over time into effects that focus on unrealistic beauty standards like facial smoothing, nose reduction and lip plumping.

A New Era from Meta

As of today, more than 2 million beauty filters designed by content creators on Instagram are being removed. However, Meta stated that the 140 official filters it developed will continue to be used. The company announced that it made this decision to focus on higher priority products and technologies. In this process, it is aimed to highlight new devices, especially augmented reality-based Orion AR glasses.
