After the attacks on Iran, US President Donald Trump is looking to the next country he wants to liberate. He’s putting pressure on Cuba.

US President Donald Trump sees the United States as an important factor in the current crisis in Cuba. When asked whether Washington was involved in the possible downfall of the government, Trump told the American news portal Politico: “Well, what do you think?” After more than 50 years of conflict over Cuba, he continued, the issue was “the icing on the cake” for him. At the same time, he praised the development in Venezuela and declared: “Venezuela is doing fantastically.” Acting President Delcy Rodríguez is doing a great job.

Trump also confirmed that the US is in contact with the communist leadership in Havana. “They need help. We’re talking to Cuba,” Trump said.
At the same time, the President made it clear that pressure from the USA was playing a role in the crisis. “Well, that’s because of my intervention, because of the intervention that’s happening right now,” Trump said. “We cut off everything – the oil, the money… everything that came from Venezuela, which was the only source.”

At a meeting with Inter Miami CF players at the White House, Trump told the audience, which included people of Cuban descent, “What’s happening in Cuba is amazing. We believe we want to fix it — get this one (the Iran War, ed.) to an end first, but it will only be a matter of time before you and many incredible people return to Cuba.” The USA wanted to get Cuba back and not lose the Cubans, he continued. He praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is himself of Cuban origin, for his work.

Trump’s latest comments on Cuba follow previous hints, some less subtle than others, that he and his allies have made about their plans for the Caribbean island nation. “Cuba is next,” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said on Fox News on Sunday after the attacks on Iran began.
