Sinop University Faculty of Fisheries Fisheries Catching and Processing Technology Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Osman Samsun said, “Catching small fish and consuming small fish means preventing us from catching these fish as they will produce more meat and fattening when they grow up. Secondly, if the fish have not carried out their reproductive activity, it is a sign that they will be caught less in the following years.” he said.
Prof. Dr. Samsun pointed out to the AA correspondent that the protection of aquaculture resources is an important issue for sustainable fishing.
Pointing out that the amount of fish obtained through hunting is gradually decreasing with the increase in population and pollution in the world, Samsun stated that the teams of the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry carry out strict inspections to prevent illegal hunting, and that they, as the scientific community, support these studies.
Emphasizing that factors such as climate change, pollution and population growth, as well as hunting activities below the height limit, pose a danger to sustainable fishing, Samsun continued as follows:
“It is now becoming more difficult to obtain fisheries through aquaculture in the world because the population is increasing, pollution is increasing, and the temperature is increasing with global climate change. All of these have a negative impact and negatively affect the reproduction, development, nutritional values and migration activities of our migratory fish such as anchovies and bonito. Subsequently, these fish We know that the catch is less. It is important that our aquaculture hunters, who catch fish in the first place, and then our citizens do not consume fish if they are smaller than the minimum fishing size limit, and consume more fish when they grow up. “It means preventing us from catching fish that have produced meat and fat. Secondly, if the fish have not carried out their breeding activity, it is a sign that they will be caught less in the following years.”
“OUR Acorn HUNTING WAS VERY GOOD”
Prof. Dr. Osman Samsun pointed out that hunting fish within the determined criteria also increases their commercial value and said, “Our bonito fishing went very well this year. While our fish were 300-350 grams in the bonito hunting that started in early September, it is now close to 1 kilo 300 grams. From here we understand that small fish are small.” “If we are a little patient, wait, and catch the fish that weigh less in length and catch them a little later, these fish will have greater weight and more commercial value.” he said.
Samsun added that conscious fishermen also make significant contributions to the efforts to create more sustainable fishing.
