Donald Trump is not yet in power in the USA. But Moscow is worried that outgoing President Joe Biden might still do too much for Ukraine by then.
The Kremlin accuses President Joe Biden’s outgoing US leadership of undermining future leader Donald Trump’s plans to resolve the Ukraine conflict. “Trump spoke during the election campaign that he wanted to create peace in some way and lead everyone on a peaceful path,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian television. “And now they are doing everything they can to escalate the situation to such an extent that peace agreements are doomed to failure,” said Peskov for the political magazine show “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”
Trump has said he wants to quickly end Russia’s war of aggression, which has now been going on for more than 1,000 days. However, there are no concrete proposals yet. Biden recently gave permission for Ukraine to use long-range ATACMS missiles from the USA against military targets in the Russian hinterland. He also wants to forgive part of Ukraine’s debt.
Peskov called Biden’s government hawks. “They have shown repeatedly that they want and will do everything to ensure that this war does not stop.” He suggested that the US Democrats wanted to restrict Trump and take revenge for his election defeat. Trump will take office on January 20, 2025.
