Weekly data of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) revealed a picture that is of great concern to those who invest their money in time deposits. The average TL deposit interest with a maturity of 1-3 months decreased to 37.3 percent as of the week of September 4. Thus, deposit interest dropped to the lowest level in the last 3 years.

FAST DECLINE FROM THE TOP
The average TL deposit interest with a maturity of 1-3 months increased to 47.7 percent in 2025. With the subsequent downward trend, the rate dropped to 37.6 percent in recent weeks. In the week of September 4, it decreased to 37.3 percent.

The decline in interest rates means a decrease in the returns earned by citizens, especially those who invest large amounts of money in term accounts. However, the rates offered by banks to customers; It may differ from the average depending on deposit amount, maturity, new customer campaigns and bank.

REVERSE MOVEMENT IN CREDIT INTERESTS
While deposit interest rates decreased, a different picture emerged on the credit side. Consumer loan interest rose to 49.8 percent as of September 4, after previously falling to 48.3 percent.
