According to the information in the report On August 27, the Tehran-backed hacker group called ‘Pioneer Kitten’ simultaneously launched a large-scale attack on education, finance, chemical, industrial, healthcare and defense institutions in the US, Israel, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates. It is also claimed that Iranian hacker groups frequently infiltrate the aviation, satellite and communication technologies and defense sectors of Western countries and transmit the information they obtain to Tehran.
THEY INFILTRATED MICROSOFT
The report also includes information provided by Microsoft to US intelligence units in 2023. Accordingly, the Iranian hacker group ‘Peach Sandstorm’ first infiltrated the systems of the company and then of official government institutions used by Microsoft. The group, which had usernames and passwords in hand, “managed to steal” a large amount of data related to the satellite, defense and pharmaceutical sectors in a short time.
PATENTED SOFTWARE THEFT
The report states that since 2018 It is underlined that Iran’s cyber groups stole a large number of national software patented in the USA. The sectors where software was stolen are primarily from the energy and petrochemical industries. The report also reveals that Iranian hacker groups have also carried out cyberattacks against the Iranian diaspora abroad, opposing Tehran.
HARRIS COULD SOFTEN RELATIONSHIPS
According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), if Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris wins the presidential race in the country, it is thought that Iran could be “forced to put an end” to its cyber attacks. Iran has yet to launch an attack on Harris’ presidential campaign.
