Ukraine will stop transiting Russian gas at the beginning of the year. Slovakia is particularly affected by this. Now the government assures us that the gas storage facilities are full.

In the dispute between Ukraine and Slovakia over gas transit, the government in Bratislava has declared that it is prepared to stop the transit of Russian gas through the neighboring country. The gas storage facilities are 100 percent full and there are enough reserves for the new year, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced.

“I would like to reassure all people and companies in Slovakia that we are prepared for this scenario and that there is currently no risk of a gas shortage,” said Economy Minister Denisa Sakova.

Ukraine, which has been defending itself against a Russian war of aggression for almost three years, will stop the transit of Russian gas at the beginning of the year. A corresponding contract is expiring and Kiev had announced long in advance that it would not be extended.

Stopping the transit route poses problems for the EU country Slovakia. The Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened Ukraine on Friday that his country could stop the supply of electricity in return.
