According to the data obtained by the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism from the State Airports Authority (DHMİ) Antalya Airport and Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport, the total number of tourists coming to Antalya was 9 million 58 thousand 186 people as of the end of July 2024. Compared to the same period last year, there was a 10 percent increase in the number of tourists coming to the city in the first 7 months of this year. The increase in the number of tourists was announced as 827 thousand 814 people. From January 1 to July 31 this year, 8 million 495 thousand of the tourists who came to Antalya by air were foreigners and 562 thousand were expatriates. There was an increase of more than 10 percent in the number of expatriate tourists compared to the same period last year.
RUSSIANS ARE ON FIRST AGAIN
In the first half of this year, due to economic problems, the number of tourists coming from Russia decreased and Germany’s increase in recent years, German tourists were back in first place in Antalya after many years. However, due to the effect of the European Football Championship between June 14 and July 14 and the increase in Russian tourist interest in the summer period, Russians moved back to first place by the end of July. A total of 2 million 40 thousand tourists came from Russia in the 7-month period of the year. The share of Russians in total tourism, which increased by 10 percent with 184 thousand people compared to the previous year, was 24 percent.
OTHER COUNTRIES IN THE TOP 5
The number of tourists coming from Germany, which ranks second, increased by 8 percent, reaching a total of 1 million 770 thousand. The numerical increase in the German market, which has been increasing steadily in recent years, was 131 thousand people, while the total nationality share of Germans was 20.8 percent.
The third-placed country, England, saw an increase of nearly 22 percent, bringing in 874,000 tourists. The British, whose nationality share is 10 percent, increased by 157,000 compared to the same period last year. Poland, which came in fourth place, saw an increase of 23.7 percent, bringing in 683,000 tourists, while the nationality share of the Poles in total tourism rose to 8 percent. The number of tourists from Poland increased by 131,000. The Netherlands, which is in the top 5, saw an increase of 11 percent, bringing in 279,000 tourists.
2.7 MILLION TOURISTS IN JULY
In July of this year, 2.742 million tourists came to Antalya. There was a 2.7 percent increase compared to the 2.6 million tourists in July last year. Russia ranked first in the list of countries with the most tourists. The number of Russian tourists in July increased by almost 10 percent to 598 thousand people. Germany, which hosted the European Football Championship in the first half of July, saw a 1.3 percent decrease of 441 thousand people, while the Germans ranked second. Third place went to England and Poland, both of which saw a 14 percent increase and 223 thousand tourists each. The other countries with the most tourists were Kazakhstan with 104 thousand, Romania with 99 thousand, the Netherlands with 77 thousand, the Czech Republic with 70 thousand, Slovakia with 62 thousand, Ukraine with 59 thousand and Denmark with 50 thousand.
