Trump cancels campaign appearances

US President Donald Trump has canceled two of his final campaign appearances before the midterm elections. Instead of the planned weekend rallies in Kansas and Iowa, Trump will hold a “large number” of virtual telerallies in numerous states, the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced on Thursday (local time). The party justified the move by saying that Republicans were “in a strong position” in both states. Trump’s final campaign event is now scheduled to take place on Friday in Florida.

The cancellation came a few hours after the 80-year-old lashed out at a Reuters reporter. The journalist had asked him if he was tired of traveling. Trump replied: “You’re sick of asking that question. (…) I feel great.” The president had recently held hour-long rallies almost every day, and signs of exhaustion had repeatedly raised questions about his health.

The congressional elections will take place on November 3rd. The Republicans are behind in the polls and could lose their majority in the House of Representatives and possibly also in the Senate. Polls also suggest close races in Kansas and Iowa.
