In the session to be hosted by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, strategic issues such as energy efficiency, renewable energy investments, circular economy practices, resource efficiency, energy security and integration of waste into energy processes will be discussed.
THE ROADMAP OF ENERGY TRANSFORMATION WILL BE DISCUSSED
In the session, many innovative application examples will be evaluated, from biomass applications to waste heat recovery, from geothermal energy investments to the use of alternative raw materials, in order to accelerate the sustainable transformation in the energy sector.
The holistic approach that Türkiye has put forward in energy and environmental policies in recent years is also aimed to be addressed at the international level.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the forum will contribute to the development of concrete solution proposals in the process of increasing energy efficiency and transition to clean energy, and stated that international decision makers and sector representatives will come together in Istanbul.
“ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND ZERO WASTE TWO INSEPARABLE TITLES”
Zero Waste Foundation President and COP31 High Level Climate Champion Samed Ağırbaş stated that energy efficiency and zero waste cannot be considered separately from each other, and that the global road map in this field will be shaped at the forum.
Ağırbaş noted that they aim to make Istanbul one of the world’s important centers in zero waste and energy efficiency.
ENERGY SUPPLY SECURITY AND CLIMATE CRISIS ARE ON THE AGENDA
In the session to be held within the scope of the forum, increasing energy demand on a global scale, energy supply security, the effects of the climate crisis on energy markets and resource efficiency issues will be comprehensively evaluated.
International experience will be shared on the topics of resilience of energy supply chains, critical raw material security, effects of geopolitical developments on energy markets, reducing energy import dependency and dissemination of clean technologies.
In addition, financing of energy transformation, green investment mechanisms, carbon reduction policies, sustainable management of critical minerals and artificial intelligence-supported energy management systems will be among the prominent agenda items of the forum.
CRITICAL MEETING BEFORE COP31
Authorities aim for the meeting in Istanbul to be not only a platform seeking solutions to current energy problems, but also to create a multilateral cooperation basis that will shape the future of energy diplomacy.
It is stated that the Zero Waste Forum, which will be held on 5-7 June 2026, will be organized with the theme “Road to Antalya: Zero Waste as Climate Action”, and the forum is expected to be one of the important organizations that will shape the global climate agenda before COP31.
PARTICIPATION FROM MORE THAN 180 COUNTRIES
More than 5 thousand participants from more than 180 countries are expected to attend the Zero Waste Forum. It was stated that more than 120 ministers, more than 200 mayors, representatives of international organizations, business leaders, academics and non-governmental organizations will attend the event.
Within the scope of the forum, the High Level Industry and Technology Ministers Session and the High Level Agriculture and Forestry Ministers Session will also be held.
Officials emphasize that the forum will not only be an environmental event, but also a global platform where new collaborations will be formed in the fields of climate diplomacy and sustainable development.
