Revolt in the US Senate: Now Trump has overreached

Donald Trump insults his critics

The US President has defended the negotiations with Iran and sharply attacked critics of his policies. “It’s not even fully negotiated yet,” wrote Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform about a possible peace agreement with Tehran. “So don’t listen to the losers who criticize something they know nothing about.”

Republicans argue over Iran deal

Negotiations between Iran and the USA on a peace agreement continue. Both sides have not yet provided any official information about exact details, but several US media have already reported on the content. The two war opponents could probably agree on an extended ceasefire, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the repayment of frozen assets to Iran.

After the first reports about the agreement, the White House and US Republicans attacked each other on social media, sometimes with vulgar insults. While the anti-war wing of the party celebrated a possible end to the war, Texas Senator Ted Cruz wrote that he was “deeply concerned” and feared that the deal “could be a catastrophic mistake.” Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) wrote that a “purported 60-day ceasefire” with Iran “would be a catastrophe” and that the military operation in Iran that began nearly three months ago “would be in vain!” Read more here.

Hegseth appeals to cadets

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has invoked the warrior ethos in the military. “You are fit, not fat. You are disciplined,” the Pentagon chief said at a graduation ceremony for cadets at the famous West Point military academy in the US state of New York. They are now being sent out to lead, “we are sending you out to form warriors, and we may be sending you to war – you are ready,” added Hegseth, whom the Trump administration renamed Secretary of War and the Defense Department renamed War Department.
