Card payments reached 2.6 trillion lira

Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced the data for April.

Accordingly, as of April, the number of credit cards in Türkiye increased to 147.6 million, the number of debit cards to 216 million, and the number of prepaid cards to 98.4 million.

In April, compared to the same period last year, there was an 11 percent increase in the number of credit cards and a 2 percent increase in debit cards, while the number of prepaid cards decreased by 3 percent. The total number of cards increased by 4 percent to 462 million.

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in April increased by 44 percent on an annual basis and reached 2 trillion 559.6 billion liras. 2 trillion 185.2 billion lira of these payments were made with credit cards, 366.8 billion lira with debit cards and 7.6 billion lira with prepaid cards.

In the same period, the payment amount increased by 44 percent in credit cards and 48 percent in debit cards, while it decreased by 60 percent in prepaid cards.

The number of payments made by cards increased by 14 percent to 1.8 billion. Of this, 1 billion 59.7 million were credit cards, 740.5 million were debit cards, and 32 million were prepaid cards.

ONLINE CARD PAYMENTS REACHED 756.9 BILLION LIRAS

The amount of card payments made online last month increased by 39 percent on an annual basis and reached 756.9 billion lira. The share of online card payments in total payments was 30 percent.

In the same period, online card payments increased by 11 percent to 249.2 million. The share of online card payments in total was recorded as 14 percent.

The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 16 percent and reached 1 billion 233.7 million. The amount of contactless payments increased by 51 percent to 855 billion lira. In April, 4 out of every 5 card payments made in-store were made contactless.
