US government cuts funding for new hospices
The US government is tightening its course in the fight against suspected fraud in the social and health care systems – and is particularly targeting democratic states. Due to billion-dollar fraud, no new hospice will receive any more federal funds until further notice, the head of the state health systems Medicare and Medicaid, Mehmet Oz, announced in the White House. States and the federal government share the cost of Medicaid.
“A third of all of these programs across the country are in Los Angeles. Just ask yourself, ‘How is this possible?'” Oz said of hospices. The reason is that federal funds are being embezzled there. That is why 800 hospices have already been cut off from funding. A program that is dedicated to caring for people in their own four walls will no longer receive any new funding.
Vice President JD Vance also said $1.3 billion in planned Medicaid payments to California would be deferred. “The simple reason for this is that the state of California has not taken fraud cases very seriously.” According to Vance, democratic states in particular take little or no legal action against cases of fraud. That’s why it’s now time to increase the pressure. The move is similar to the US government’s actions in democratically governed Minnesota. There it froze its subsidies for poor people on the grounds that there was systematic abuse. President Donald Trump particularly suspected Somalis there.
