Asian Development Bank plans to open an office in Türkiye

Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance Osman Çelik stated that the Asian Development Bank plans to open an office in Türkiye and said, “The fact that the bank has reached this decision is an indication that it sees Türkiye’s potential and that our cooperation will reach much more important dimensions in the coming period.” he said.

The 59th Annual Board Meeting of the Asian Development Bank was held at the Silk Road Fair and Congress Campus in Samarkand with the theme “Turning Point of Progress: Shaping the Region’s Connected Future”.

Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance Osman Çelik, who is on the board of directors representing Türkiye, said in his statement to the AA correspondent after the meeting that an important stage in relations with the Bank has been left behind with Türkiye’s transition to regional country status.

Çelik pointed out the increase in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank and stated that 1.3 billion dollars of financing was reached in the first year. Informing that the main target is the 8 billion dollar package to be provided in the 2026-2028 period, Çelik stated that there are projects and capacity where the 8 billion dollar package can be used.

Emphasizing that the fact that the Asian Development Bank is offering these opportunities in such a short time is an indication of the importance it attaches to Türkiye and the potential seen, Çelik said, “It provides support not only to public projects but also to the private sector. The Asian Development Bank is planning to open an office in Türkiye in the coming period, negotiations were held. The fact that the bank has reached this decision is an indication that it sees Türkiye’s potential and that our cooperation will reach much more important dimensions in the coming period.” he said.

Pointing out that Uzbekistan and Türkiye have common historical and cultural civilization connections, Çelik stated that there is an increasingly strong cooperation between the two countries.

Stating that the total trade volume reached 3 billion dollars last year, Çelik said, “The target set by our esteemed presidents is a trade volume of 5 billion dollars. We believe that we will achieve this target. Türkiye has significant investments in Uzbekistan. The amount of investment made by Turkish companies in Uzbekistan to date has exceeded 8.2 billion dollars. The number of companies operating in Uzbekistan from Türkiye is around 2,200. Likewise, our contractors have carried out a project worth over 9 billion dollars here.” We know.” he said.

Stating that these are indicators that relations with Uzbekistan will improve, Çelik pointed out that initiatives such as the Organization of Turkic States (TDT) and the Turkish Investment Fund (TYF) serve as a catalyst to improve relations.

Çelik said that there were significant changes in the region with the US/Israel-Iran War, and that not only the region but the world was affected by this conflict.

Stating that the concepts of security and cooperation have changed with the increase in energy prices, Çelik stated that the importance of regional cooperation has emerged at this point.

Drawing attention to the importance of decisions and regulations aimed at increasing foreign investments in Türkiye, Çelik said, “Large organizations, investors and financial institutions that had their offices in the Gulf countries after the war in the region are now in a new search. Thus, Turkey, Istanbul and the Istanbul Financial Center are now coming to the fore. All the regulations made will be an important step for foreign investors to come to Türkiye, to be able to open their regional offices more quickly, to take part there more effectively and to increase the effectiveness of the Istanbul Financial Center.” made his assessment.
