Donald Trump has presented a comprehensive plan with 20 points for the Gaza Strip. The US President himself wants to take control of a supervisory committee.
US President Donald Trump has presented a peace plan with 20 points for the Gaza Strip, which provides for an immediate ceasefire, the return of all hostages and the reconstruction of the area under international supervision. This emerges from a letter from the White House.
In a press conference, Trump said optimistically about a rapid peace solution in the Gaza War. An agreement is “more than very close,” said Trump on Monday alongside the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House. Trump continued that Netanyahu accepted his peace plan – however, the Hamas approval was still pending.
The central element of the plan is the establishment of an international “Peace Council”, which is intended to coordinate Gaza’s reconstruction and monitor the administration. Trump wants to take over the chair himself. Other members are to follow, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Control over Gaza should temporarily be with a technocratic Palestinian transitional government, which is supported by international experts.
Trump links the ceasefire with the release of all hostages. According to the plan, “all hostages, living and deceased,” should be brought back within 72 hours of the approval of Israel. In return, Israel plans to release 250 Palestinians who have been convicted of life in prison and 1,700 since October 7, 2023.
The proposal stipulates that the Israeli army withdraws to a defined line to enable the hostage return. In the meantime, all military operations are to pause the front lines frozen.
After the hosts are released, Hamas members who do without violence and confess peaceful coexistence are to be amnestated. If you want to leave the Gaza strip, you should be able to do this safely, the document says. But the terrorist group should no longer play a role in the Gazas government in the future.
A core of the plan is the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip. All tunnels, arms warehouse and military infrastructure are to be destroyed and not rebuilt. An independent observer mechanism is intended to check this to support the process and reintegration program financed by international donors.
At the same time, an aid package should start: infrastructure, hospitals, bakeries and streets are to be restored. According to the plan, auxiliary goods should be imported via UN organizations and other neutral actors-without interference of Israel or Hamas.
