Ziraat Bank, Türkiye’s leading bank, shared with the public the Climate Transition Road Map that will contribute to our country’s 2053 Net Zero Emission target. The Bank once again demonstrated its determination in the field of sustainable finance by announcing science-based emission intensity reduction targets for 2030 in the electricity generation, iron and steel, cement and agriculture (plant production) sectors.
At the center of Ziraat Bank’s approach is the “intensity-based targeting” model, which includes the understanding of “carrying out economic growth and decarbonization simultaneously. The bank leads the transformation of its customers by financing technology modernization and renewable energy investments in high-emission areas, without discrimination by sector.”
The goals in question are; It was created based on IEA 2050 Net Zero scenarios for the electricity, iron-steel and cement sectors, and SBTi FLAG 1.5°C compatible pathways for the agricultural sector. The road map was also prepared in compliance with international reporting and financial frameworks such as IFRS, ITPN and PCAF.
STRONG FINANCE FOR CLEAN ENERGY TRANSFORMATION
Ziraat Bank continues to increase the share of renewable energy investments in its electricity generation portfolio; It positions wind, solar and hybrid energy power plants, as well as energy storage systems and grid modernization investments, among its priority financing areas.
SUPPORT TO LOW CARBON INDUSTRY
Modernization investments that will accelerate the transition to low-carbon production technologies in the iron and steel industry and projects aimed at the use of renewable energy are among the priority transformation areas supported by the Bank.
In the cement sector, investments in alternative raw material and fuel use, waste heat recovery, energy efficiency applications and carbon capture technologies in the long term are supported.
CLIMATE FRIENDLY AGRICULTURE ECOSYSTEM
Ziraat Bank, the strongest financial supporter of Turkish agriculture; It aims to contribute to the spread of sustainable production through precision agriculture practices, modern irrigation systems, the use of renewable energy in agricultural enterprises and the financing of new generation agricultural machinery.
Ziraat Bank Project Finance and Company Analysis Group Head Berrin Mahmutoğlu said the following in his evaluation of the Climate Transition Road Map:
