Cevdet Yılmaz, in his statement on his social media account, evaluated the labor force statistics of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) for May.

Stating that the economy continued to generate employment thanks to the employment-friendly policies they implemented during the disinflation process, Yılmaz stated that according to seasonally adjusted data, the unemployment data for May 2024 continued to decrease by 8.4 percent.

Yilmaz said that the unemployment rate, which showed a good performance compared to the previous month and the Medium Term Program (MTP) expectations, decreased by 1.1 points compared to May last year, and made the following statements:

“Our employment increased by 1 million 267 thousand people compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 32.9 million people, while the employment rate reached its highest level at 50 percent. The labor force participation rate, which is an important indicator of the potential of our economy, is also at a historical peak at 54.5 percent.

We attach importance to young people and women assuming a greater role in production for stable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Thanks to the policies we have implemented within this framework, youth unemployment has decreased by 1.3 points compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 15 percent, and the same rate for women has decreased by 2 points, reaching 11 percent. As we progress through the disinflation period, we will continue to increase employment with our development-oriented policies that include all segments of society, especially young people and women, and support entrepreneurship and innovation.
