According to media reports, a senior general of his office has been removed in China. He Weidong was the vice boss of the military commission.

He had not been seen publicly for days, at an event a few days ago, his absence triggered speculation. Now it is apparently clear: the career of Heidong, China’s second highest military, has ended. As reported by the “Financial Times” (FT), the general of President XI Jinping was fired. There should also be investigations against the army general.

Weidong was also a member of the political office of the China Communist Party. It is unclear whether he maintains this role. There is no official statement from Beijing. Apparently Weidong’s dismissal is part of a cleaning campaign by the Chinese president, who wants to act against corruption in his own ranks. According to the “Financial Times”, reports that the general had been arrested and is interviewed are also said for this.

It is the first time in 60 years that a vice boss of the central military commission in China is fired. The Commission is the highest military body in China and is available to the army, the police and the militias.

According to experts, XI Jinping wants to ensure that the military is loyal to the Communist Party and can face the global challenges. Neil Thomas, a China expert, said the “FT”: “This shows how serious XI is to combat corruption in the military.” In recent years there have been several discounts of high -ranking, including the two defense ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu and the former Foreign Minister Qin Gang.
