In the “Semi-Precious Stones Workshop”, which was brought to Diyarbakır Maturation Institute with the initiative of Provincial Director of National Education Murat Küçükali the previous year, stones found in nature, as well as gold, silver and copper, are evaluated.
Female craftsmen, who keep the traditional handicrafts of the city and the region alive with their production, wear boots and raincoats during part of their workday and track down the stones that will be turned into jewelry in nature, regardless of snow, winter or rain.
After special processing of the stones they find in the workshop, women combine them with the Diyarbakir wicker bracelet and coriander necklace, registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, and prepare accessories in different designs.
Diyarbakır Maturation Institute Director Ufuk Yakut said that the workshop established within the Institute not only reveals the beauties of the ancient city in the field of handicrafts, but also offers new opportunities to women.
