US President Donald Trump celebrates the deposition of Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show. Well -known entertainers, on the other hand, speak of censorship or intimidation and see freedom of expression in danger.
Successful late night moderators of US television stand behind the deposed entertainer Jimmy Kimmel and make serious allegations against the government of President Donald Trump. “Tonight we are all Jimmy Kimmel,” said satirist Stephen Colbert in his show on Thursday evening (local time). Colbert described the decision of the US broadcaster ABC to temporarily dismantle Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show. Jon Stewart and David Letterman also criticized.
“You can’t give in a centimeter towards a car crate,” said Colbert, without naming Trump’s name. In July, the US broadcaster CBS announced the end of Colbert’s “Late Show”. The announcement announced for May 2026 triggered outrage because Colbert is considered Donald Trump’s critic and many industry experts suspected that CBS acted out of consideration for the US president.
A “government -conforming program” was put together, moderator Jon Stewart said at the beginning of a special program of the “Daily Show”. During the show, Stewart Trump repeatedly paid respect – he kept calling the president “Lordschaft” and “father” to the president. In the program, Stewart also alluded to “an unprecedented consolidation of power” and “intimidation” on the part of the US government.
The former late night entertainer David Letterman was also critical: “We all see where that leads, right?” Said Letterman. “It’s silly. It is ridiculous. And you can’t just fire someone just because you are afraid or try to push yourself at an authoritarian, criminal government in the Oval Office. It just doesn’t work,” said the 78 -year -old moderator during a panel discussion.
On Wednesday, after his controversial statements about the death of the right -wing activist Charlie Kirk, the broadcaster ABC Kimmel’s show “undetermined time” had taken out the program. Trump welcomed the decision and demanded that further programs to be discontinued by unpleasant moderators.
Previously, the media company Nexstar, who radiates content from ABC with dozens of local channels, explained that he no longer want to send Kimmel’s show. Sinclair – another operator of local channels – followed up and asked the moderator, among other things, an apology at Kirk’s family and a donation to Kirk’s organization Turning Point USA.
