Israel’s army stops a pro-Palestinian auxiliary flotilla on the way to Gaza. The well -known activist Greta Thunberg is also filmed when arresting.
Greta Thunberg has been detained together with other pro-Palestinian activists by Israeli armed forces. It was on board a Gaza aid fleet. In a post on X, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a video of the arrest of the Swedish activist. It shows Thunberg sitting on the floor. Next to her crouches an Israeli soldier who initially inspects her things and then waits for her jacket putting on her jacket and putting on her hat.
Shortly before, Thunberg had recorded a video message that was spread on social media. In it said 22-year-old: “My name is Greta Thunberg. I am on board the ship Alma. We are immediately intercepted by Israel.”
According to its own information, the Israeli military took control of “several” ships in the auxiliary fleet on Wednesday evening. The passengers of the ships would be taken to an Israeli port, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday evening. “Greta and her friends are safe and healthy,” it said with reference to the Swedish climate activist Thunberg.
The British Guardian reported that at least two of the activist boats had been used to have around 75 miles (approx. 121 km) off the Gazas coast by Israeli forces. The ships drove in international waters north of Egypt on Wednesday afternoon and had entered a so -called “high risk zone”. Although it is still international waters, it is an area in which the Israeli Navy had stopped other boats on the way to Gaza in the past.
The activists of the so -called Global Sumud Flotilla said that several ships were “intercepted and taught” by Israeli occupying forces in international waters “. At around 7:25 p.m., according to the report, around 20 Israeli warships of the flotilla approached and asked the boats to park their engines, reported activists on social media. Live recordings of the flotilla showed passengers who sat in a semicircle and waited with life jackets. The live streams and communication with several other ships broke off shortly afterwards.
On video recordings on the Italian television station Sky Italia you could see how activists were hit on deck by strong water rays. You also heard loud gnaw near several boats. It was probably glare grenades that were thrown off by drones.
