A Chinese, high -ranking foreign politician has apparently been removed from his office. Liu Jianchao has not been seen publicly in weeks.

In China, a high -ranking politician in the party leadership apparently fell out of favor. Liu Jianchao, an influential Chinese foreign politician, has not appeared in public for two months. In July there were reports according to which the diplomat was arrested by a trip when returning.

Now his photo as head of the international department has been exchanged on the website of the China Communist Party (CPC). Instead of him, Liu Haixing can now be seen, who was previously responsible for European relationships. The website with the personal profile of Jianchao was also removed. So far, there has been no official announcement on the change. The international department is responsible for relationships with other parties abroad and socialist states in the CPC.

Liu Jianchao often met with foreign dignitaries and recently visited Great Britain, reports British “The Guardian”. He speaks in fluent English, studied international relations at the University of Oxford, worked in the Chinese representation in Great Britain. He was previously spokesman for the Foreign Ministry and Chinese ambassador in Indonesia and the Philippines.

As the “Guardian” reports, experts saw him as a possible next foreign minister of China. His sudden disappearance from the public has been the most prominent case in China since the then Foreign Minister Qin Gang has been exchanged since 2023.

The “Wall Street Journal”, citing the matter, reported that Liu Jianchao would be investigated against Liu Jianchao for alleged corruption and violations of the party discipline. Liu itself previously worked for the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, China’s authority to combat corruption. One of Lius Deputy, Sun Haiyan, was also reported in August, but has since performed at public events.

In recent years, a number of high -ranking Chinese officials have been taken out of public life without explanation. Former Defense Minister Li Shangfu was released in 2023 and later excluded from the party together with Wei Fenghe, another former defense minister. It was officially confirmed that their punishments were related to a corruption examination in the People’s Liberation Army.

The former Chinese Minister of Agriculture Tang Renjian was even sentenced to death on Wednesday for corruption, reports ORF. The enforcement of the death penalty was suspended for two years. From 2007 to 2024, Tang accepted lubrication funds and real values with a total value of more than 268 million yuan (32 million euros).
