Dissatisfaction with Vladimir Putin is apparently growing in the US government. Donald Trump initially reacted surprised to a corresponding statement by JD Vance.
US Vice President JD Vance showed himself frustrated about the behavior of the Kremlin on Wednesday in Washington. “I think with the first offer that you have put on the table, you ask too much,” said Vance in an interview with the former head of the Munich security conference, Wolfgang Ischinger.
The statement is considered another sign by observers that the doubts about the peace will of Russia to growers grow in the US administration. “We also have to look at the Ukrainian side what they are ready to put on the table what they want,” continued Vance. Between the two demands – those of the Ukrainian and those of the Russian side – there is currently still a large gap, said the US Vice President.
At a conference in which high-ranking military and diplomatic representatives take part, the US Vice President said that the White House focused on moving Ukraine and Moscow to direct discussions. But he also emphasized that Washington was willing to cancel the negotiations at any time if certain key points were not achieved.
“I would not say that the Russians are not interested in a solution,” said Vance during the interview with Ischinger. “But what I would say very well is that the Russians are currently making a number of demands, a number of concessions to end the conflict. We believe that they demand too much.”
When asked about the statements of his deputy, US President Donald Trump later gave himself an unsuspecting. “When did he say that?” He asked at a press line in the White House. The reporter replied: “This morning.” Trump then replied: “That could be that he is right”. Vance may know “some things,” said Trump, while he was dealing with other topics.
“We have reached a point where some decisions have to be made,” said the US President. “I’m not happy about it (how it works). I’m not happy about it.”
Other high -ranking government officials are also said to be increasingly frustrated by the Russian regime’s catalog of demands, including Foreign Minister Marco Rubio. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy for Russia, has so far held four personal talks with Putin. However, none of them led to concrete concessions on the Russian side.
