In order to recycle tea garbage fibers in tea farming in the Eastern Black Sea, 830 thousand decares, the facility was established by Rize Municipality in an area of 12 acres in the Organized Industrial Zone in Kalkandere district.

In the facility, garbage fibers are pressed with carbon and 2 thousand tons of barbecue coal per year, while the methane gas is produced 0.8 megawatts per hour.

The facility, which obtains 30 million TL income annually, can produce electricity from solar panels placed on the roof of 4 thousand 200 square meters as well as the heat that occurs during the processing of the tea fiber.

As a result of R & D studies, the barbecue coal produced in the facility, where various by-products are continuing for agriculture and pets, is exported to many European countries, especially Germany and England.

It was awarded the 2nd place in the ‘Efficiency in Sustainable Production Methods’ category within the scope of the Productivity Project Awards organized by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, which produces added value and provides its energy by the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

At the ceremony held in Ankara, the Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır was presented award to the Mayor of Rize Rahmi Metin.

Mayor Rahmi Metin, 613 projects from 57 provinces participated in the competition, said they were happy to receive awards, he said. Metin said:

“30 percent of tea fibers, barbecue coal, 25 percent of methane gas comes out. We use methane gas as fuel at the inner temperature. 4 thousand 200 square meters of solar panels on our roof we benefit from solar energy.”
