America’s stars are not afraid to take a public stand in the US election campaign. Singer Lizzo and rapper Usher are campaigning for Democrat Harris.
The Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris is receiving support from two superstars from the music industry in the election campaign: Singer and rapper Lizzo (“Truth Hurts”) and rapper Usher (“Yeah!”) campaigned at the candidate’s appearances in the important swing states of Michigan and Georgia. for the US vice president, who is running against Republican Donald Trump in the presidential election on November 5th.
Georgia and Michigan are among the so-called swing states where the result between Harris and Trump could be particularly close. Both are therefore increasingly campaigning in these hotly contested states. Meanwhile, at an event in Pennsylvania, also a swing state, Trump called Harris a “shitty vice president.”
“I support Vice President Harris because she fights for the civil liberties of all people,” Usher said in Atlanta, where he began his music career. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, she has a vision for our country that is inclusive.” The audience celebrated the 46-year-old and sang along with him. Usher urged people to vote early in the election and, looking ahead to Election Day, said: “Everything we do in the next 17 days will impact the lives of our children, our grandchildren and the people we care most about love, influence.”
According to Harris’ campaign team, there were around 11,000 people at the event. The Democrat emphasized that she comes from the middle class. “And I will never forget where I come from,” she said in her speech in Atlanta. “Trump will give massive tax cuts to billionaires and corporations – like last time.”
Referring to 100-year-old former President Jimmy Carter, Harris said: “If he can cast his vote early, you can too!” A few days ago, Carter cast his vote for Harris by postal vote in Georgia.
The singer and rapper Lizzo (“Truth Hurts”) campaigned for Harris a few hours earlier in her hometown of Detroit, Michigan. “I’m proud to say that I voted. I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris,” the 36-year-old said at a campaign event. “If you ask me if America is ready for its first female president, all I can say is: It’s about damn time,” Lizzo continued. If Harris wins the election on November 5th, the entire country will be like Detroit – “proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit.”
Numerous superstars have recently taken a clear stand and supported the Democrat Harris – these include singers such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Beyoncé, music legend Bruce Springsteen and actor George Clooney. US musician Usher later wants to perform with Harris in Atlanta in the highly competitive state of Georgia. Trump is supported by rock rapper Kid Rock and rapper Kanye West, among others.
Harris herself answered a few questions from the press before her appearance in Detroit – and, among other things, commented on her Republican rival Donald Trump. “Donald Trump has proven himself increasingly unstable and unsuitable,” she warned. “I think the American people are seeing this in real time, and we need to acknowledge that this is a person who wants to be president of the United States.” A short time later on stage, she again made fun of Trump’s campaign appearances. “He talks all the time about himself and about mythical figures, not about working people, not about you.”
Trump, meanwhile, was campaigning in the hotly contested state of Pennsylvania and insulted Harris during an appearance there. She is not as smart as US President Joe Biden, he said of the Democrat. However, he is not the smartest either. “You need to tell Kamala Harris: We can’t stand you. You’re a shitty vice president. Get away, Kamala.” Trump repeatedly resorts to insults below the belt and said some time ago that Harris had a “mental disability.”
