Into the White House at 24: Trump’s new deputy spokesman

US President Trump is expanding his staff. MAGA journalist Beni Rae Harmony joins the press team. It is not just political statements that are surprising.
Beni Rae Harmony announced her appointment to the new position herself. “I am very pleased to announce that I will be joining the Trump administration as assistant press secretary of the White House,” wrote the US journalist on the short message service X. The new assistant in the US President’s deputy spokesman team Donald Trump is only 24 years old.
Deputy government spokeswoman Anna Kelly – who has been on the spokesperson team since January 2025 – found words of praise for her future colleague on the news site “TMZ”: “As a White House correspondent, Beni Rae Harmony was a trustworthy voice of the MAGA movement.” Beni Rae Harmony last saw Trump on a trip to in September Ireland accompanied.
Trump’s chief spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt left her job in the summer for family reasons. She became a mother for the second time in May. The position has been vacant since then.
Firmly rooted in the MAGA movement
Harmony has previously worked, among other things, as chief reporter in the White House team of the right-wing broadcaster Real America’s Voice. She left her job as a news anchor at WICS station in Illinois after criticism of her emotional statement following the assassination attempt on the right-wing activist Charlie Kirk had arisen. Harmony said at the time: “I’m quitting, and I’m not going to let anyone tell me that I can’t talk about someone I cared about.”
Harmony had previously also worked for Republican members of the US Congress, such as former parliamentarian Matt Gaetz. He resigned from his mandate in November 2024 after Donald Trump nominated him as Minister of Justice. Accusations of sexual misconduct, sex with a 17-year-old and illegal drug use were made against Gaetz, among other things; Gaetz denied the allegations.
Harmony also caused a stir when she appeared in the campaign for Republican candidate Jarome Bell with a gun and a T-shirt that read “Fuck Joe Biden.” Her speaker colleague Anna Kelly now rejected criticism of Harmony’s attitude: “We’re looking forward to having her on board!”
