Media: US representatives for talks with Russia in Abu Dhabi

US representatives are to negotiate with a Russian delegation in the United Arab Emirates. The focus is on the US plan to end the war in Ukraine.

According to media reports, high-ranking members of the US government are currently in Abu Dhabi to talk to a Russian delegation about a possible peace solution in Ukraine. Daniel Driscoll, the State Secretary in the US Department of Defense, has been holding talks with representatives of the Russian government since Monday (local time), CBS, CNN and the Wall Street Journal all report.

Intensive talks are currently underway between Ukraine, European allies and the USA about a basis for a possible peace solution. The meeting in Abu Dhabi follows talks over the weekend in Geneva involving Driscoll and other officials from US President Donald Trump’s administration.

Washington had presented US President Donald Trump’s 28-point plan to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Europeans and Ukrainians renegotiated the plan, which many have criticized as a “Russian wish list,” with US representatives in Geneva. Moscow, for its part, has described the plan, which calls for tough concessions from Ukraine, as a possible basis for negotiations, but warned against major softening in favor of Kiev.
