Ukraine and Russia talked again about the end of the war in Istanbul – and agreed to exchange a prisoner. Kiev’s main goal was apparently not reached.
Ukraine and Russia have agreed a further exchange of prisoners during negotiations in Istanbul. The Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umjerow said to journalists, first of all dealing with an exchange of seriously injured and serious prisoners of war. And the second category is young soldiers between the ages of 18 and 25. The principle of “all against everyone” applies. So they agreed on specific categories “and not on digits”.
The head of the Russian delegation Wladimir Medinski confirmed the agreement on the exchange of prisoners in the categories mentioned. According to him, the aim is to exchange at least 1,000 prisoners of war in both groups. In addition, according to both sides, an exchange of 6,000 corpses of killed soldiers was also agreed.
According to Umjerow, Kyiv also proposed the Russians at the end of June as the next appointment for follow -up talks. Ukraine also called for another meeting at the highest level: “All key questions can only be solved at the leadership of the leadership,” said Umjerow and said that the US President Donald Trump is also possible.
The mutual suggestions were handed over with regard to the desired ceasefire. It is currently still being evaluated to evaluate the Russian document, said the spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Horhij Tychyj.
Ukraine has defended itself against a Russian invasion with western support for over three years.
