The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) published the “Internal Migration Statistics” bulletin for 2024.
Accordingly, the population rate that migrated between the provinces in 2008, which was 3.18 percent in 2008, was 3.13 percent in 2024, following a bumpy and outbreak over the years. In this context, 2 million 682 thousand 673 people in Türkiye last year emigrated between provinces. 47.6 percent of this population was men and 52.4 percent were women.
İstanbul, who received the most immigration, became the province of Ardahan who received the least migration
Looking at the distribution of the population that migrated between provinces in Türkiye, Istanbul was the most immigrants with 395 thousand 485 people. Istanbul, 202 thousand 402 people Ankara, 117 thousand 889 people followed by Izmir. The minimum migration provinces with 4 thousand 570 people Ardahan, 5 thousand 644 people Bayburt, 6 thousand 739 people was Tunceli.
Istanbul was the most migratory province with 369 thousand 453 people, while this province with 150 thousand 373 people Ankara, 102 thousand 40 people followed by Izmir. Ardahan with 6 thousand 441 people, 8 thousand 41 people, Kilis with 8 thousand 41 people, 8 thousand 639 people with Bayburt was determined as Bayburt.
The highest number of migration mobility last year is in the 20-24 age group
Last year, the highest migration mobility took place in the 20-24 age group with 549 thousand 43 people. 41.9 percent of the migrants in the age group were men and 58.1 percent were women.
In Türkiye, 579 thousand 507 out of 2 million 682 thousand 673 people who migrated between provinces in 2024 migrated to one of the members in the household. When the other reasons for migration were examined, 512 thousand 370 people were seen to have migrated to better housing and living conditions, 479 thousand 622 people migrated due to education.
According to gender, the most important reason for the migration of 255 thousand 846 people in men with better housing and living conditions, while women with 343 thousand 342 people in the household was dependent on one of the members. In men, one of the members in the household was one of the most important reasons for migration and appointment/job changes, and better housing and living conditions in women.
When the reasons for the migration of the 20-24 age group, the age group of migration mobility, were examined, the most important reason for this mobility was education. 209 thousand 40 of the migrants in the age group in question, 84 thousand 328’un starting/finding work, 44 thousand 319’un migrated due to better housing and living conditions.
On the other hand, after the earthquake on February 6, 2023, the people who migrated with another, the people returned to the provinces they reside before the earthquake were evaluated under the title of “Return to the Family/Country”.
