Turkey’s internet usage rate was announced.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the 2023 electronic communications sector data of the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
Minister Uraloğlu stated that they have made significant progress in these areas with the $275 billion investment they have made in Turkey’s transportation and communication infrastructure in the last 22 years, and said, “As of 2023, the internet usage rate in our country has increased by 15.7 percent in the last 4 years and reached 87.1 percent. The internet usage rate of our population is well above the world average of 67 percent. Our fixed and mobile broadband internet subscribers increased by 2.9 percent compared to the previous year and reached a total of 93.3 million.”
Uraloğlu, who stated that the majority of broadband subscribers are mobile broadband subscribers, said that with the 3G service that started in 2009 and the 4.5G service that started in 2016, the number of mobile broadband subscribers increased rapidly and reached 73.7 million subscribers and 79 percent of the total number of broadband subscribers by the end of 2023. Uraloğlu, who also provided information about the increases in fixed broadband penetration in Turkey and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, said, “Turkey became the country with the highest increase in fixed internet penetration in the one-year period between 2022-2023 among the OECD countries. While the annual average penetration increase was 1.7 percent during this period, this rate was 2.2 percent in our country.”
Minister Uraloğlu, who also provided information about the data obtained from electronic communication services, emphasized that electronic communication revenue increased by 72 percent compared to the previous year and said that it increased by 3.4 times compared to 2019. Uraloğlu underlined that the electronic communication sector revenue will be 224.6 billion liras in 2023.
