Trump speaks to the central bank with candidates. The US President threatens China with new tariffs. All developments in the news blog.

According to US President Donald Trump, the survey of candidates for an open post in the Board of Directors of the US Federal Reserve Fed has started. He said on Wednesday (local time) in a speech to reporters in the Oval Office that the candidate pool is likely to limit itself to three candidates. Trump described two candidates with the first name Kevin as top candidates. This is the economic advisor of the White House, Kevin Hassett, and the former Fed governor Kevin Warsh, who can be considered for the post.

US President Donald Trump has promised further tariffs against China because the country buys Russian oil. “It could happen … I can’t tell you yet,” said Trump in front of reporters. “We did it with India. We probably do it with a few others. One of them could be China.” He did not give any further details. It was only on Wednesday that Trump imposed an additional inch of 25 percent on Indian goods and also justified this with the purchase of Russian oil.

The US government occupies India with penalty tariffs of 25 percent. The White House announced this on Wednesday. At the beginning of the week, Donald Trump had already criticized India for his trade relationships with Russia. “India not only buys huge amounts of Russian oil, but then sells a large part on the free market with high profits,” wrote the Republican on his platform Truth Social. “They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are killed by the Russian war machine.”

US President Donald Trump brought Vice President JD Vance into play as his possible successor for the 2028 presidential election. It is “most likely” that he will support Vance as the Presidential candidate of the Republicans, Trump said on Tuesday (local time) when asked by journalists. After all, Vance is Vice President. Trump’s earlier statements suggested that he himself would strive for a third term, which is prohibited according to the US constitution.

“It is still too early to talk about it, but he is undoubtedly very good work. And he would be preferred at the present time,” Trump continued about Vance. The President also brought the possibility of a joint candidacy by Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio. “I think that Marco is also someone who might be able to get together with JD in some form,” said Trump.

Vance had already spoken about a possible presidential candidacy for the 2028 election, but said that he wanted to deny Trump. In presidential elections in the USA, the Republicans and the Democrats usually present a candidate duo for the presidency and that of the deputy head of state.
