US President Trump invited Irish superstar Conor McGregor to the White House. He did not hold back during the subsequent press round.
US President Donald Trump received the controversial Irish martial artist Conor McGregor in the White House for St. Patrick’s Day. The mixed martial arts fighter met Trump, whose national security advisor Mike Waltz and spoke in front of reporters in the press room of the government center.
St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday in honor of the Irish patron saint of St. Patrick. Irish emigrants brought the celebrations to the United States in honor of their national saint. On the occasion of the holiday, Trump received the Prime Minister Micheál Martin in the White House last week. With his guest at St. Patrick’s Day, the martial arts fan Trump now set a controversial accent-the Irish government distanced itself from McGregor.
The Irish mixed martial arts fighter is considered a big star of the scene, but his latest fight is already a bit ago. Last year, a court in Dublin decided in a civil trial that the martial artist had to pay around 250,000 euros in damages to a woman who accuses him of rape. The plaintiff accused McGregor of raping her in a hotel room in December 2018. At the time, McGregor said the sex was mutually acceptable and announced that it was appealing.
Trump was also sentenced to a compensation for damages in a civil process for sexual abuse before he re -entered. A New York jury saw it as proven that Trump had attacked US author E. Jean Carroll in 1996 in a New York Nobelkaufhaus, sexually abused and later slandered. Trump also denied the allegations and submitted an appeal application.
When visiting Washington, McGregor criticized the Irish government for its migration policy. Ireland is on the threshold of being “being” losing “being”, he said because an “illegal immigration business is up to mischief”. In front of the reporters in the White House, he continued that there were entire places in Ireland that had been overwhelmed by “illegal”.
The Irish head of government Micheál Martin replied to X, McGregor’s comments are wrong and do not correspond to the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, which is about community, humanity, friendship worldwide.
“President Trump can invite him to home who he wants, and he has the right to do what he wants if he invites someone to the White House,” said Irish vice head of vice control Simon Harris. “But let me say it clearly: Conor McGregor is not in the USA to represent Ireland or the Irish people.”
The US President himself said last week that McGregor was one of his favorite.
