Researchers from Kyoto University of Japan examined the impact of nostalgia on friendship relations with approximately 1500 participants from the United States and Europe in three different experiments.
In the experiments, the participants were investigated how prone to nostalgic emotions and their intimacy levels in social relations.
The findings showed that nostalgic individuals pay more care to maintain their social ties and make closer friendships.
Researchers have determined that people become more nostalgic as they get older.
Kuan-Ju Huang, one of the chief writers of the research at the University of Kyoto, said in a statement, “People who feel more nostalgic and value their memories, are aware of the importance and need to be kept on hand.” He said.
The results of the study were published in the magazine “Cognition and Emotion”.
