In order to end the war with Ukraine, Vladimir Putin calls for control over the Donbass. In return, he makes an offer to Ukraine.
At the meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin formulated far-reaching regional claims, according to a report by the Reuters news agency. Accordingly, he calls for complete control over the Donbass, i.e. the East Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk – including those areas that have not yet been taken by Russian troops.

In return, according to Reuters, Putin offered to give smaller areas occupied by Russia in the north of the Sumy region and in the northeast of the Charkiw region. The agency relies on non -named sources that are said to be familiar with the considerations of the Kremlin.
The area offered for the delivery should therefore include around 440 square kilometers. For comparison: In the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, Ukraine continues to control around 6,600 square kilometers.
According to the report, Putin was convinced that sooner or later the Donbass was able to take the Donbass completely. Likewise, he is said to have asked to recognize the crime -annexed crime under international law as Russian. The parts of the Saporischschja and Cherson regions occupied by Russia are also to be permanently under Russian control. In return, Putin apparently announced not to attack any other areas of Ukraine.
As early as the fall of 2022, Russia illegally annexed four regions of Ukraine – Saporischschja, Cherson, Luhansk and Donetsk. Since then, Russia has seen the regions as a so -called “independent Russian territory”. Putin had announced that they want to “defend” the annexed regions militarily. After annexation, however, Russia quickly lost the political and sometimes military control over the regions of Saporischschja and Cherson.
