The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, consisting of workers, employers and government representatives, meets on December 10, hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, to determine the minimum wage to be applied in 2025. In the month-long minimum wage marathon, the worker side will be represented by the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Türk-İş) and the employer side will be represented by the Confederation of Turkish Employer Unions (TİSK).
In the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, 5 members each from worker, employer and government representatives will determine the minimum wage figure that will be valid in the new year, in four meetings to be held until the end of December. There will be 4 workers in the delegation this year, as was the case last year. The determined amount will be shaped by economic expectations, inflation rates and labor market conditions. The commission will announce its final decision by the end of December.
How is the minimum wage determined?
The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people, including five representatives from workers, employers and the government, as required by law. The Commission is called to a meeting by the Minister of Labor and Social Security and meets four times in December as part of the work to determine the new minimum wage.
The commission, chaired by one of the members determined by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and decides by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, it is assumed that the side with the chairman of the commission has the majority.
