With the start of the 2026-2027 fishing season, fishermen set out to sea, and the good amount of fish in the first days of the season made them happy. However, due to the price imbalance in the market for fishermen, this situation prevented the joy of the season.
With the end of the hunting ban on the seas on September 1, boats went to sea again. While the abundance of bonito attracts attention in the first days of the 2026-2027 fishing season, fishermen are worried this time due to the imbalance in prices. Industry representatives recommend a short-term break in hunting to rebalance the market.
THE ABUNDANCE OF Acorn HAS REDUCED PRICES
While the boats sailing in Trabzon returned to the port with cases of bonito, the abundance of the product brought down the sales prices. Eastern Black Sea Fisheries Cooperatives Regional Union President Ahmet Mutlu said that the amount of fish in the first days of the season was promising, but the prices put fishermen in a difficult situation.
Mutlu stated that it should be evaluated that fishermen, big and small, should not go to sea for a few days and said, “Whether it will be 3 days, 4 days or a week, this needs to be evaluated.”
“WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE SUITABLE FOR FISHING”
Stating that the weather and sea conditions in the Black Sea are positive for fish reproduction, Mutlu said that the amount of fish may increase further in the coming months.
Reminding that bonito is a migratory fish, Mutlu stated that there are different fish species in the sea and that the amount of catch is expected to increase as the season progresses.
HE SPOKE HOPEFULLY FOR ANCHOUSES
Mutlu said that there are positive signs for anchovy this season. Stating that anchovies hit the gillnets of small fishermen, Mutlu noted that similar scenes were experienced in regions such as Rize, Hopa, Fatsa and Ünye.
Stating that the anchovies seen in the sea may be summer anchovies, Mutlu said that they expect activity in anchovy hunting later in the season.
