Hakan, Chairman of the Electronic Commerce Operators Association (ETİD), gave information about the development of the e-commerce sector, the point reached in e-export, and the future targets of the sector in his statement.
Çevikoğlu pointed out that the Istanbul Global E-Export Summit, organized in Istanbul under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade, with the organization of ETİD and in cooperation with TİM, was very productive and conveyed that the demand from domestic and international markets was far above expectations.
Reminding that the e-commerce volume in the world is 6 trillion dollars, Çevikoğlu said:
“The 30 companies participating in the Istanbul Global E-Export Summit are companies that realize almost 3.5-4 trillion dollars of this 6 trillion dollars. Therefore, it is a summit like a treasure, worth its weight in gold. Our first priority is for our brands to be able to sell their products in markets abroad. The world is just learning that Turkish products are so good, high-quality, and have such a wide variety of products. Foreign companies have made demands for Turkish e-commerce companies, purchases have been made and will continue to be made. Many companies in the world, especially eastern companies, see Turkey as the key to entering the West. Its share in e-export in Turkey is approaching 10 percent. Therefore, it is now necessary to think about export together with e-export and plan together.”
WORDS STARTING WITH ‘TURKISH’ ARE MORE SEARCHED
Çevikoğlu, who stated that they conducted research on what is searched in search engines globally, said that words starting with “Turkish” are being searched more.
Çevikoğlu gave the following information:
“This is data. After the word ‘Turkish’ comes up in search engines around the world, click rates also come up. This means that you have found what you are looking for. No search is one thing, searching and clicking is another, searching and clicking is another. We can make many inferences about countries based on this data. The number of searches for the word ‘Turkish’ as a two-word phrase, as in the example of ‘Turkish delight’, and the number of clicks on the searched thing are increasing in the world. This shows us that interest is increasing. When we see the increase in exports, we see the harmony of this data and the correct integration. In the last 5 years, the number of searches for products with ‘Turkish’ in the world has increased approximately 10 times.”
E-EXPORT GROWTH
Hakan Çevikoğlu stated that e-commerce continues to grow in Turkey and that the trend will continue in this way.
Referring to year-end expectations, Çevikoğlu said, “As of the end of the year, we are predicting a growth of around 100 percent in e-commerce compared to last year, we think that the year will close in the 3.4 trillion TL band. The share of e-export in total exports, which was around 2 percent last year, has already reached 3 percent, we think that we will see 3.5 percent by the end of the year. I think that we will at least double last year in both e-export and e-commerce growth.”
Çevikoğlu noted that the last quarter was one of the busiest periods in e-commerce and that major sales would continue this year with global campaigns in November and local and national campaigns in December.
