As December approaches, the question “How much will the new minimum wage be?” is increasingly on the agenda of millions of people.
In line with the Medium Term Program (MTP) announced by the government, the 41.5 percent inflation forecast for the end of the year will play a decisive role in the new minimum wage to be determined in December.
8 million minimum wage earners will start 2025 with a new salary. The new minimum wage, effective January 1, will be announced in December. However, labor and employer unions will begin making preparations before this date.
The unions will start their work early in line with the expectations and demands and will complete their preparations before December.
By law, the minimum wage is determined by a total of 15 people, including five representatives from the employee, employer and government.
At the beginning of December, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security will call the Minimum Wage Determination Commission to a meeting. At the end of the meetings that will continue throughout the month, the new minimum wage that will be valid as of January 1 will be decided. Türk-İş will represent the workers’ side, while TİSK will represent the employers’ side.
WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS?
In January 2023, the net minimum wage increased by 54.7 percent to 8 thousand 506 lira, and in July 2023, it increased by 34 percent to 11 thousand 402 lira.
In January 2024, the minimum wage increased by 49.11 percent and became 17,002 lira. This year, no interim increase was made and the new minimum wage to be implemented for 2024 will be determined by taking into account the year-end inflation.
