PUBLIC PURCHASING POWER IS MELT
While exchange rates are rising in Iran due to the war and naval blockade, the depreciation of the rial and price increases are accelerating. Citizens who spoke to Euronews state that even if their incomes increase, the prices of basic needs rise much faster.
MEAT AND RICE HAVE BECOME A LUXURY
Citizens living in Tehran say that they have seriously reduced their consumption of products such as meat, chicken and rice, which they regularly bought before the war. While some families turn to cheaper products, price rather than quality becomes the determining factor in food shopping. In Euronews’ previous field news, it was reported that families had largely given up meat, chicken and rice.
CUSTOMERS OF TRADESMEN ARE DECREASING
The economic crisis also hits small businesses. Speaking to Euronews, a restaurateur said he had lost around 60 percent of his customers since the start of the war and blockade. While input costs are rising, increasing prices also causes customers to drift further away.
CRISIS IS GROWING IN TRANSPORTATION
The increase in fuel, maintenance and vehicle operating costs also puts a strain on the transportation sector. Speaking to Euronews, one of the Snapp drivers stated that a significant part of his income goes to commission, gasoline, oil and vehicle wear and tear expenses. It is stated that the number of drivers working on the platform has decreased due to increasing costs.
