PERYÖN (Turkish Human Management Association), which has been operating for more than 50 years with the vision of “leading a better working life for now and the future”, organized a webinar on psychological safety in working life. In the webinar titled “The Secret of Productivity in Working Life: Psychological Safety”, many topics were discussed, such as ways to ensure psychological safety in institutions, the leadership skills required for this, stress management and development areas.

‘HE LOOKS AT WHAT HE DOES, NOT WHAT HE SAYS’

The Contact Founder Ateş Ataseven emphasized the following in his speech:

“When emotional needs are not met, tensions begin to arise between teams. The leader’s role should be to create harmony like an orchestra conductor. The most important duty of the manager is to open the dialogue channels within the team and ensure that nothing remains behind the scenes. “Especially the younger generation doesn’t pay much attention to what leaders say, they look at what they do.”

‘ANXIETY IS FUNCTIONAL IN CASE’

In his speech, Ataseven also drew attention to the function of anxiety and stress on the path to success and said:

“A certain amount of stress and anxiety; It enables learning, development and success. All concerns in moderation are functional. You just need to keep the dose. On the other hand, if we are not physically balanced and safe, it is not possible to achieve this psychologically. “A person with a healthy body will successfully get out of stress and anxiety situations.”

BIGGEST MOTIVATION

Emre President, Founder of AZOR Brand & People Solutions, lecturer and researcher, shared the data from the ‘Turkey Business World’s Comfort Zone Map Research’, which was held for the seventh time this year, and pointed out the following:

“There is a research we have been carrying out across Türkiye for seven years. When we conducted research two years ago, while the issue of ‘great resignation’ was on the agenda in the world, we experienced the ‘inability’ to resign in Turkey. In this year’s research, we obtained the lowest numbers of data that we can match with psychological safety in recent years. Our research shows that the biggest motivation of white-collar workers is not salary. As a hygiene factor it is second on the priority list. “The first thing is feeling successful.”

The President continued his speech as follows:

“Our research also shows that there are various actions that organizations can take to reduce the stress levels of their employees. First of all, the institution needs to create a ‘meaning’, and it is important to shape its mission and vision accordingly. It is also important for leaders to spread this approach within the organization and delegate the management perspective to the teams. Another issue I would like to draw attention to from the research results is this: Yes, hopelessness is high. However, there is a slight softening here compared to last year. And we see that as the level of education increases, the state of hopefulness becomes relatively more positive.”
