Scientist Geoffrey Hinton, who won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in the field of artificial intelligence, warned in an interview with BBC Radio, “The probability of artificial intelligence destroying humanity in the next 30 years has increased from 10 percent to 20 percent.”

‘DISASTER’ INCREASED ITS PERCENTAGE DRAMATICALLY

According to the news on NTV, Hinton, who previously stated that the probability of technology causing a disaster was 10 percent, said, “This rate is increasing because we have never encountered a situation where we had to control something smarter than us.”

Compared to powerful AI systems, Hinton said humans would be as vulnerable as a three-year-old child.

Hinton stated that when he started working on artificial intelligence, he did not predict that this technology would develop so quickly, and said, “Most experts in this field think that we will probably develop artificial intelligences that are more intelligent than humans in the next 20 years. This is a quite scary thought.”
