Switzerland was the most expensive country in Europe

In Europe, Switzerland was the highest price -level index for consumption goods and services.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) announced the results of the “Purchasing Power Parity, Household Final Consumption Expenditures” for 2024.

Accordingly, the price level index shows the purchasing power of countries’ national currencies comparatively according to the exchange rate. If the price level index of a country is greater than 100, this country is compared with the average of the country group “expensive” and “cheap” if it is less than 100.

According to the results of Türkiye’s 2024, the price level index for consumption goods and services was 53. This value, 27 European Union (EU) in the country of 100 euros in the same goods and service basket purchased, 53 euros in Türkiye can be purchased with Turkish Liras.

The comparisons were made between 27 EU member countries, three European Free Trade Union (EFTA) countries (Switzerland, Iceland and Norway), 5 candidate countries (Turkey, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania) and a potential candidate country (Bosnia-Herzegovina).

Compared to countries, Switzerland was Switzerland with 174 with the highest price level index for consumer goods and services between 36 countries and Türkiye was the lowest country.

When the price level index for Türkiye’s consumption goods and services group was examined in terms of sub -groups, the Personal Transportation Reeds Index was determined as 136 and the price level of this group was above the average of the EU countries.

On the basis of other subgroups, the Food and Non -Alcoholic Beverages Index was recorded as 77. In this group, Türkiye’s price level was calculated to be high compared to other sub -groups. In contrast, alcoholic beverages and tobacco index was 60, and in this group, the price level was low compared to other sub -groups. Türkiye’s index value was 69 in the clothing group, 67 in consumer electronics and 69 in restaurants and hotels group.
