What is striking is that the arrest only took place after a resident called the emergency number. At least that’s what a farmer from Whelford claims, who made suspicious observations on Sunday night and then called the authorities. The woman told the BBC that the police were on site ten minutes later.
Accordingly, the farmer was returning from a private party around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday night when she saw the unusually parked delivery trucks in the village. Whelford is close to the Fairford military base. There was something wrong with the advertising labels on the vans and the men were behaving suspiciously. “They seemed extremely focused and vigilant about the base; they didn’t pay any attention to our village at all,” she said.
The farmer initially tried to contact the Ministry of Defense police as she knew about the increased security measures that were observed around the military base on Saturday. Since no one came forward to the ministry, she finally called the police, as the British “The Independent” reports.

Trump claims arrest for himself
During the course of Monday, a dispute arose over the authority to interpret the incident. According to the farmer, the police and security services “failed” to deal with the incident. “I still can’t understand how this could have happened on this base, which was on high alert. I think it was just luck that I arrived in the village around the same time as the transporters,” the woman told the BBC.
British Defense Minister Wes Streeting, however, said the woman only had an “incomplete picture” of the situation. The reaction of the police, anti-terror units and security services was “exemplary”. The minister added: “I would like to thank the citizen who acted quickly and reported the incident.”
Also Donald Trump tried to claim access on Sunday: the secret services were in the picture. “We had our eye on them for a long time and caught them,” he said of the suspects. The five men wanted to cause “great damage”. The US President also praised the cooperation Great Britain.
