A foundation supported by Israel and the USA has started distributing relief goods to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. However, there are said to have been chaotic scenes.
According to Israeli media reports, numerous Palestinians have stormed a new center to distribute food in southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli news portal “Ynet” reported that employees of a US company had occasionally withdrawn given the chaos. US wax people had given warning shots. At first there were no reports on possible injuries in the incident in Rafah.
In view of a month -long blockade of relief goods by Israel, which had only been loosened up a bit, many people are in a desperate location in the competitive coastal strip. There were reports of looting in the storm on the distribution center.
The Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF), which was founded a few months ago, announced that in view of a large rush, the GHF team had withdrawn “in order to allow a small number of Gaza residents to take a safe way and to disperse again”. The team adhered to the security protocol to prevent victims. The normal work has now been resumed.
According to Israel, the GHF should in future be responsible for the distribution of the relief goods. “More trucks with relief goods will come tomorrow,” said the message. The scope of auxiliary deliveries should be larger every day.
There were several hours of delay in delivery due to Hamas barriers. So far, around 8,000 food packages have been distributed. Each package can feed 5.5 people for 3.5 days. A total of 462,000 meals.
After the incident, the Hamas media office announced that the mechanism initiated by Israel to distribute relief goods was a “total failure”. The Interior Ministry controlled by the Hamas had previously called on the residents of the Gaza Strip to boycott the new distribution mechanism.
With the distribution strategy supported by the USA, the Israeli government claims to prevent Hamas from stealing and resold deliveries. UN representatives say that Israel has not submitted any evidence of this. The four GHF distribution centers in the south and in the center of the Gaza Strip are to be operated by US security companies. Israel wants to deal with the UN and other international helpers so aid organizations.
