According to the posts on the social media account of SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk in 2002, the Dragon capsule carrying the Polaris Dawn team landed in the Gulf of Mexico waters near the Dry Tortugas region in the US state of Florida.
Isaacman, who performed the first private spacewalk, announced “Mission accomplished” after landing.
Thus ended the 5-day journey of Isaacman, as well as SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis, Anna Mennon and pilot Scott Poteet.
Isaacman and Gillis became the 264th and 265th people to walk in space.
POLARIS DAWN MISSION
SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket from Florida on September 10 for the first private spacewalk in human history as part of the Polaris Dawn mission.
As part of the mission, first Isaacman and then Gillis completed a spacewalk on September 12 by climbing into space with the help of a rope from the Dragon capsule.
The Polaris Dawn mission team, which also conducted scientific experiments, entered orbit through the radiation belt and reached the highest Earth orbit.
Meanwhile, in addition to the first mission of SpaceX within the Polaris program, Polaris Dawn, two more missions are aimed to be realized in the future.
