The cost of bringing a mobile phone from abroad and using it in Türkiye increases every year. The IMEI registration fee, which was applied as 54 thousand 258 TL in 2026, is expected to increase to approximately 69 thousand 450 TL in 2027 if the current estimates regarding the revaluation rate are realized. The calculation is based on the assumption that the revaluation rate to be applied in 2027 will be around 28 percent. In current projections, the rate varies between 27.66 percent and 29.01 percent. If an increase of 28 percent occurs, the current fee of 54 thousand 258 TL will reach approximately 69 thousand 450 TL.
15 THOUSAND LIRA IN ONE YEAR
If the prediction comes true, the annual increase in the IMEI registration fee will be 15 thousand 192 TL. Thus, in order for a phone purchased abroad to be used in Türkiye, approximately 70 thousand TL will need to be paid only during the registration phase. Moreover, the increase in IMEI price is not limited to the last few years. The registration fee was 1,838 TL in 2020, 2 thousand 6 TL in 2021, and 2 thousand 732 TL in 2022. In 2023, it was first increased to 6 thousand 91 TL, and then to 20 thousand TL with the decision taken. The fee increased to 31 thousand 692 TL in 2024 and 45 thousand 614 TL in 2025. For 2026, it was determined as 54 thousand 258 TL.
THE CHEAP PHONE ADVANTAGE IS RISING
The increase in IMEI registration fees also increased the total cost of phones brought from abroad. In the past, foreign sales prices could remain lower than in Türkiye, especially for Apple, Samsung and other upper segment models. In the current practice, a registration fee of 54 thousand 258 TL is added to the international price of the device. If the increase predicted for 2027 is realized, this amount is expected to increase to approximately 69 thousand 450 TL.
The exact figure will be determined in the last months of 2026, after the revaluation rate is clarified and the decisions regarding the fees are announced. According to current calculations, for a phone brought from abroad, there will be an IMEI registration cost of approximately 70 thousand TL in addition to the device cost.
