In the investigations on nine thousand -year -old mummies exhibited in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, samples were taken using small tubes and pumps. As a result of the analyzes, the mummies ‘woody’, ‘spicy’ and ‘sweet’ scents were determined.
CECİLIA BEMBİBRE, the Research Director of the Sustainable Heritage Institute from the Research Team, stated that the findings were surprising, “There is a general perception that mummies spread bad smells in the movies and books. However, our analysis revealed that mummies have pleasant smells,” The results of the study were published in Journal of the American Chemical Society.
