The Russian region of Belgorod is a staging area for attacks on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. That is why Ukraine is firing into Belgorod, and civilians are also being hit.
According to official reports, at least five people were killed by shelling from the Ukrainian side in the Russian city of Belgorod, which is close to the border. In addition, there were at least 37 injured, including six children, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram. He spoke of damage to two apartment buildings, several shops and more than 20 cars.
The Russian governor accused Ukraine of firing cluster munitions from rocket launchers. These statements could not be independently verified. Cluster munitions are banned in many countries because they are dangerous, especially for civilians. However, both sides are using such missiles in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
The reports of the shelling of Belgorod came after at least six people were killed by Russian glide bombs in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv across the border. The cities are only about 120 kilometers apart. Because the Russian army uses the border region of Belgorod as a starting point for its attacks on Kharkiv, the region is frequently shelled from the Ukrainian side.
