US President Trump is said to be planning military strikes against two countries. Japan offers the USA a large investment package. All news in the news blog.
Republican Congressman Lindsey Graham said in an interview with CBS television that US President Donald Trump wanted to inform Congress about upcoming military actions against Venezuela and Colombia after his trip to Asia.
“There will be a hearing in Congress,” Graham said. “This will not only involve possible attacks at sea, but also on land.” He supports the approach, saying Trump has all the authority he needs for such an action. The senator asked soldiers serving in the US military not to listen to voices that would condemn them for a possible invasion: “You make America safe,” the Republican representative added.
The new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has offered US President Donald Trump an investment package worth billions. The $550 billion package includes investments in shipbuilding as well as increased purchases of U.S. soybeans, gas and pickup trucks, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.
Trump and Takaichi also signed a framework agreement to secure the supply of minerals and rare earths, the White House announced. Accordingly, the countries want to work together through coordinated investments to accelerate the development of diversified and fair markets for raw materials, as the US President’s Office further announced.
With the commitments, Takaichi apparently wants to forestall Trump’s demands for higher defense spending. Trump praised Japan’s efforts to increase its military capacity and buy more U.S. defense equipment. Takaichi also plans to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, as broadcaster NTV reported, citing government circles.
The USA and Japan want to further strengthen their security alliance. Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said at the start of a summit with US President Donald Trump in Tokyo that she wanted to “realize a new golden age of the Japan-US alliance.” Your two states have “built the strongest alliance in the world.” Together, Japan is ready to contribute to peace and stability, she said.
Trump acknowledged that Japan was increasing its military capabilities “significantly” under Takaichi’s leadership. The US has already received orders from Japan “for a very large amount of new military equipment,” Trump said. At the start of her term in office, Takaichi recently announced that she would increase the defense budget to two percent of gross domestic product by March. This goal would be achieved two years earlier than previously planned. She described the security alliance with Japan’s protective power, the USA, as the “cornerstone” of her foreign and security policy.
